Mission is served by the Shawnee Mission School District. The relatively small area of the town makes it easy to commute to schools in neighboring towns, though both Rushton Elementary School and Little Lambs Montessori educate younger children in Mission. Shawnee Mission North High School is located one block west of the town limits, in Shawnee, and provides an excellent secondary education for Mission teenagers.

Mission’s central location is ideal for quick access to the rest of the region. Mission’s western border is a major thoroughfare, 69 Highway, which feeds directly into Interstates 35 and 635. Shawnee Mission Parkway runs along the southern edge of town, providing quick access to Kansas City, Missouri, to the east, and Shawnee, Kansas, to the west. The Kansas City International Airport can be reached in only half an hour.
