Prairie Village Kansas is a suburb of Kansas City located in the northeast of Johnson County. It is considered part of the greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area. Nearby cities include: Shawnee, Merriam, Overland Park, Mission, Lenexa, Leawood, Roeland Park, and Kansas City Missouri.

Where Prairie Village now stands, the tribes of Shawnee, Osage, and Kansa all formally owned the land. One of the original settlers in the area was Thomas Porter who bought 160 acres of farmland.

Post WWII, the housing boom and returning GI’s contributed richly to the growth and prosperity of Prairie Village. JC Nichols was a famous and visionary developer. After he successfully developed the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri, he set out to develop communities in Johnson County as a planned suburb of the bigger Kansas City. In fact, in 1949, Prairie Village earned the reputation of being the best-planned community in the United States by the National Association of Home Builders! By 1951, Prairie Village had officially become incorporated.

Today, Prairie Village just has a warm and inviting vibe with neatly arranged single-family homes on winding streets lined with mature trees and strong community values. Similar to its surrounding cities of Mission, and Shawnee, art and quaint community shops are the norm versus the exception.
